Who Was Edwin Barlow – A quick over view
​
Edwin Barlow, the son of Edwin Barlow, was born in Manchester, England in 1842. The Barlow family emigrated to the United States in 1848. The Barlow's took up farming near town of Flushing, in Genesee County, Michigan.
​
In 1861, Barlow enlisted in Company C of Stockton’s Independent Regiment which was accepted into Federal Volunteer service as The 16th Michigan Volunteer Infantry.
​
Fighting in the Battle of Gaines Mill, on June 27th, 1862, Barlow was wounded in action and later captured.
​
Paroled and returned to the Union Army, Barlow was discharged for disability and returned to Michigan by the end of 1862.
​
In 1866, Barlow moved to Muskegon, Michigan and married Julia Eades. The Barlow’s had three daughters; Lulu born in 1866, Edith born in 1869 and Ethel Mae, born in 1874.
​
Ethel Mae Barlow married John J. Taylor (b 1869) on 28 Nov 1889 in Muskegon, Michigan
​
They had 7 children, Grace L. Patterson, Charles A Taylor, Vera M. Taylor, Edward J. Taylor, Mary B. Taylor, William J. Taylor and Harold H. Taylor.
Mary Belle Taylor was born in 1904.
​
She married Leonard Hendrickson and they had four children, Lorraine J Hendrickson, Leonard C. Hendrickson, Robert W. Hendrickson and Marilyn Hendrickson.
​
Lorraine J. Hendrickson was born in 1924 and died in 2013.
​
She married Robert P. Hoffman and they had 11 children, Paul R. Hoffman, Jack L. Hoffman, Robert K. Hoffman, Mary E. Hoffman, Janet L. Hoffman, Timothy J. Hoffman, Lisa A. Hoffman, Michael J. Hoffman, Peter B. Hoffman, Stephen E. Hoffman and Alan M. Hoffman.

In the early 1990's, I learned that Grandma Hendrickson's Grand Father, Edwin Barlow, had served in the Civil War. I was able to request both his service records and pension records from the National Archives and Records Administration.
